The latest of the Navision versions, Dynamics Nav 2013, was released in September, 2012 by Microsoft. It continues the key new features introduced with 2009, including the role-tailored user interface, three-tier architecture for scalability, and greatly improved/expanded web functionality and sharepoint integration. It also marks the end of the classic client (except as a development environment) and the end of the native database option. The role tailored client is a huge step forward for Nav for both ease-of-use and ease of integration with the web and/or with other applications. With Dynamics Nav 2013, you can finally have the ease of use and intuitiveness of a QuickBooks type application with the power and flexibility everyone expects from the most customizable ERP on the market.
Nav 2013 has been around long enough to be fairly prevalent now, and overall is getting rave reviews. It's not really a new or revolutionary product - that was Nav 2009 RTC. But what Nav 2013 does do is fix all the assorted bugs and annoyances of 2009 RTC while maintaining and improving the good parts, resulting in a solid and impressive product. This is typical of Microsoft software, though, as almost everyone knows -- you're generally safest if you wait a little while for the bugs to 'shake out' before adopting the 'latest and greatest', unless you're tech savvy and brave enough to want to be an 'early adopter', or unless you just can't live without the great new features.
Dynamics Nav 2009 is still the primary Nav version in common use at this time, although 2013 implementations are growing steadily. Previous versions are still in use by many people, but nothing earlier than Navision 5 is officially supported by Microsoft, and 5 probably won't be supported much longer.
